Nikwax Down Proof

Nikwax Down Proof™ is specifically designed and optimized for down items. It adds (DWR), which protects against rain and condensation and improves the natural insulating properties of down.

Nikwax Down Proof™ extends the life of your down equipment. It leaves a flexible, water-repellent layer on the individual down and fabric fibres, allows water vapor to pass through, maintains breathability and improves performance in cold and humid conditions.

Nikwax Down Proof™ is a safe, easy-to-use product for down-filled equipment. It is quick to use in the washing machine, which ensures that the treatment goes right through the article and reaches both the outer fabric and the down filling. Nikwax Down Proof™ DWR develops during outdoor drying. However, tumble drying is recommended to ensure that the down is dried as quickly and thoroughly as possible. If down remains wet or damp, it can be completely ruined.

Washing instructions:

For best results, remove all non-washable parts and wash items with Nikwax Down Wash™. It is not necessary to dry before impregnation. Shake well before use, refer to care label.

Washing machine:

• Remove all soap residue from the soap dish, or use a wash ball
• Put the clean clothes in the washing machine (maximum 1 piece)
• Use 150ml for 1 garment
• Run a wash program at 30° and spin at a low speed.

Manual:

• Immerse the garment(s) in a bowl of lukewarm water.
• Use 150ml in a tub or 300ml for 2 garments in a bathtub.
• Use for 300ml in the bathtub with 4cm of water.*
• Stir, let soak for 5 to 10 minutes, then stir well again.
• Rinse in cold water until the rinse water is clear. For sleeping bags, drain the water and gently squeeze the excess water out of the sleeping bag.

Always wash with Nikwax Down Wash™ so as not to lose its water-repellent properties. Do not use traditional detergent.

Drying: To get as much water out of the down as possible, spin several times, increasing the speed slightly each time. Wet down becomes heavy, if the items are spun at too high a speed while there is still a lot of water in them, the internal baffles may break.

Nikwax Down Proof™ does not require heat to develop the DWR. . However, tumble drying is recommended to ensure that the down is dried as quickly and thoroughly as possible. If down remains wet or damp, it can be completely ruined. Tumble dry according to the manufacturer's instructions on a low setting until the clumps are gone. Make sure there is enough space in the tumble dryer for the item when it dries as it will return to its original size during the drying process.

Repeatedly breaking up clumps during the drying process helps to restore the fluffiness of the down.

After tumble drying, it is recommended that the items air out in a warm, dry area for at least a day before storing.
