Trust Hanging Cheek Sweet Iron Double Jointed 12mm

The hanging cheek or baucher jaw piece is a bustrail variant on which smaller rings are attached on top of the rings. The cheek piece is attached to the top rings and the reins to the bust. This gives the bit a light leverage. The hanging cheek is often used by pony riders in the higher class but can also be used to ease the step from a normal snaffle to bar and snaffle. The double-jointed bit has two hinge points, is shaped more towards the mouth and lies a bit looser in the mouth. This bit acts on the tongue, the layers and the corners of the mouth. Be careful with narrow lower jaws, the hinge points can then press on the layers, which can cause wounds. Compared to a single jointed bit, this bit acts more on the tongue. A double jointed mouthpiece is a standard mouthpiece. The Sweet Iron bits are made of steel and have a recognizable blue color. Sweet Iron develops surface rust through contact with (air) moisture that tastes sweet and stimulates the horse's saliva production in a natural way. This will cause the horse to foam more, which ensures better acceptance of the bit. This rusting process (oxidation) changes the blue color of the TRUST bits to brown-grey. This is a desired effect of the Sweet Iron bits. When a Sweet Iron bit is temporarily not used, an orange-brown layer of rust can form on the mouthpiece. This can be easily removed by wiping the bit with a damp cloth.
