Salmon oil vs. flaxseed oil

Both salmon oil and flaxseed oil are rich in essential fatty acids. These are fatty acids that the body cannot produce itself, while the body needs them to function normally. The main difference between salmon oil and flaxseed oil lies in the types of omega 3 fatty acids. Flaxseed oil is particularly rich in one type of omega-3 fatty acid (ALA), while salmon oil is also rich in EPA and DHA in addition to ALA. This ALA is most abundant in vegetable oil, while EPA and DHA are mainly found in animal oil. ALA fatty acids must first be converted into EPA and DHA by the animal before they can be used by the body. However, this process is quite inefficient, resulting in only a 5-10% conversion. The animal EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids can be used directly by the animal, which means that the omega-3 fatty acids provided with salmon oil are used much more efficiently.
