Ideal in warm weather or in case of fluid loss due to exertion or during a competition, because water alone is not enough for a quick recovery.

When sweating heavily, a horse loses, in addition to fluid, also electrolytes (salts such as chloride, sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium) and trace elements (e.g. zinc). A horse's sweat contains more electrolytes per litre of fluid than blood and other body fluids. A horse will lose its desire to drink if the electrolyte concentration in the body is low, possibly resulting in dehydration, despite fresh drinking water being available.
