Some horses feel comfortable with a bit that offers a bit more freedom of movement in the mouth. The loose rings of a loose-ring snaffle allow the mouthpiece to move freely, so many horses make more active contact with the bit. Combined with the Sweet Iron material, this creates a bit that supports relaxation and acceptance while keeping communication clear and direct.

The TRUST Single-Jointed Loose Ring – Sweet Iron is a versatile choice for horses that benefit from a mobile mouthpiece and an active mouth.

The mouthpiece – Single-jointed
The mouthpiece is single-jointed with one joint. This means the bit acts mainly on the bars and the sides of the tongue.

A single-jointed mouthpiece gives clear and direct communication in the aids. Thanks to its simple construction, many horses experience this as a clear and consistent contact. Horses that respond well to a direct connection with the hand in particular often feel comfortable with this type of mouthpiece.

The single-jointed mouthpiece is often chosen for:

• Horses that benefit from clear communication
• Horses that enjoy making active contact with the bit
• Riders who prefer a direct connection to the mouth

As with any bit, a correct size and fit remain important for optimal comfort.

The cheekpiece – Loose Ring
The loose-ring cheekpiece has free-moving rings, allowing the mouthpiece to move freely relative to the rings. This freedom of movement stimulates mouth activity and creates a dynamic contact.

This provides:

• More freedom of movement in the contact
• An active connection with the bit
• Fewer fixed pressure points in the mouth
• More activity in horses that tend to lock the bit

Many horses respond well to this freedom of movement, especially those that benefit from a more active mouth feel and a more responsive connection with the hand.

The material – Sweet Iron
This bit is made from Sweet Iron, a material specially developed to support the horse's mouth activity. Contact with moisture creates a natural oxidation process on the surface of the bit, releasing a slightly sweet taste that supports salivation and helps promote a supple, relaxed connection with the hand.

Active saliva production contributes to:

• More relaxation in the jaw
• Better acceptance of the bit
• A more supple connection between rider and horse

Sweet Iron's characteristic blue colour gradually changes to brownish-grey through the oxidation process. This is a normal and desired effect that is part of how the material works. Regular cleaning and dry storage help keep the bit looking good and functioning well.

Suitability
The TRUST Single-Jointed Loose Ring – Sweet Iron is particularly suitable for horses that benefit from extra freedom of movement in the mouth, combined with the activating properties of Sweet Iron.

It is a deliberate choice for:

• Horses that benefit from an active mouth
• Horses that tend to lock the bit
• Riders who want to combine direct communication with a mobile cheekpiece
• Combinations working on relaxation and harmony in the contact

For horses that need more calm and stability in the mouth, an eggbutt may be a better fit. The TRUST Single-Jointed Loose Ring – Sweet Iron is currently permitted under KNHS and FEI regulations for dressage, jumping, and eventing.

As regulations may change, and certain competition formats may have additional requirements, we always recommend checking the most current national and international competition rules beforehand.
