Different types of horse rugs
When purchasing a rug for your horse, the first important step is to determine the purpose and the conditions in which you’ll be using it. There are stable rugs, turnout rugs, fly sheets, and many other types available.
Stable rugs can be used when you want to protect your horse or pony from the cold. These rugs are not waterproof, but they are highly breathable. Stable rugs are available in many different thicknesses.
For cooler, dry summer days, you can use a summer sheet. These are often made of cotton and provide protection against the cold without retaining too much heat.
Rain sheets are ideal for warmer, rainy days. These blankets have little to no filling but are waterproof, keeping your horse protected from the rain.
If you want to protect your horse not only from the rain but also from the cold, use a winter rug. Winter rugs are waterproof and come with a filling that keeps your horse or pony warm. They are available in various thicknesses.
Fly rugs are used when you want to protect your horse from horseflies, flies, and other insects. If your horse suffers from sweet itch, it's best to use a sweet itch rug.
Therapy rugs help improve blood circulation and can be used effectively to warm up the horse, prevent injuries, and support the healing process.
Would you like a summer sheet, fly sheet, and rain sheet all in one? Then choose a 3-in-1 rug. These rugs protect your horse from the sun, rain, and insects.
If you want to protect your horse while riding, use an exercise sheet. These are available for protection against flies, or to shield from cold and rain.
Underblankets can be placed under a rain sheet, so you only need one rain sheet while still being able to adjust the warmth of the blanket. Underblankets are also available in different thicknesses.
If you want to use a blanket for the walker or during lunging in the winter, use a walker blanket. The main function of walker blankets is to protect the sensitive kidney area from moisture and cold. Walker blankets have a shoulder cutout, allowing the shoulder full freedom of movement during exercise.
Sweat blankets are used for sweaty horses. When your horse is sweaty, it’s important that they don’t catch a chill. A sweat blanket can help with this. These blankets are specifically designed to wick away sweat and help the horse dry off, without allowing them to cool down too quickly.
Do you want to prevent your foal from getting cold? Then use a foal blanket.

Neck pieces
If you want to protect your horse or pony even more, you can attach a neck piece to your horse blanket. Make sure your blanket also has attachment points for a neck piece. This can be done with Velcro or snap hooks.
A neck piece can be used when it's raining heavily. If you don't use one, rain can get through the chest and neck opening of the blanket. In winter, it's best to attach a neck piece to your blanket when the temperature drops below 5 degrees. Of course, this depends on the weather.
You can also attach a neck piece to a fly blanket. This is usually recommended to protect your horse or pony's neck from flies or other insects.
At Agradi, we also offer a wide selection of neck pieces. You can find neck pieces starting from size XXS in our range! Check out the neck pieces on our website. On this page, you'll also find more information about neck pieces!
How do you know the right blanket size for your horse or pony?
Once you know which horse blanket you need, it's important to determine the exact size required. For the best estimate, it's best to measure your horse or pony yourself. On the horse blankets in our website, two measurements are provided: the back length and the under length. Not only is the size important, but also the model of the blanket. Want to know everything about how to do this correctly and see some examples? Check out this page on our website!
